After discharge from hospital, if your baby is a lusty healthy
newborn and has no problem, you can take the baby back for check up at
1 and 2 weeks. But you should watch the baby closely in the meanwhile. If
the baby’s eyes or skin appear yellowish you should consult your
Pediatrician. You should also watch for any pus discharge or bleeding
from the umbilicus. Keep a close watch on the warning signs which I
have mentioned in chapter on “common problems of the
newborns”.
Afterwards you can take the baby for check up and immunizations at 6,
10 and 14 weeks. During these visits Pediatrician will also
record baby’s weight, head size, length and monitor milestones of
development.
You should again take the baby to Pediatrician at six months for
check up, assessment of growth and developmental milestones, as well as
to discuss weaning (introduction of semi solid and other complimentary
foods). After this you go back at 9 months for measles immunization,
routine check up ,growth and development assessment . Next you will go
back at one year for a routine check up, growth and development
assessment and any new vaccine that your baby’s Pediatrician
would want to administer like Hepatitis A and Chicken Pox.
