BABY MASSAGE TIPS

Massage is beneficial for your baby. You can do it yourselves or you can employ a “Malishwali Bai” who are available in India and after initial supervision, can be allowed to do the job. If you have any concerns about massaging your baby - and especially if your baby is sick - you should consult a Pediatrician first. In any case: never massage a baby if she appears ill or uncomfortable.

ADVANTAGES OF BABY MASSAGE:

    • Baby massage is a good bonding experience - a good way for you and your baby to get to know each other and to spend a bit of quality time together.
    • Studies have suggested that physical contact is good for babies, improving their breathing, circulation, digestion and growth.
    • It provides a good source of sensory and muscle stimulation, which is beneficial to all babies, but may be particularly good for babies with special needs, such as developmental disabilities and Down's syndrome.
    • Baby massage is even claimed to combat postnatal depression in mothers, according to a BBC news report on baby massage and post natal depression.
    • It relaxes both parent and child.
    • It's fun for both of you.
